The lamps are made from resin and burl wood and cast with micro powder and coloured dyes, because of this each one is unique. The casting is turned on a lathe to the finished shape and carefully sanded and polished to a beautiful finish.
The base for the lamps can either be a block of burl wood or a turned wooden base. Spheres are not fixed to the bases so they can be picked up and turned around for different effects. Eggs are glued to their bases.
Each lamp contains a WiFi enabled microcontroller and a rechargable battery. The lamp connects to your WiFi network and you control the colour and effects of the lamp using a mobile app. The lamp will run for a few hours on the battery which is ideal if you are using it while entertaining dining guests. It is recharged by connecting the supplied cable to a USB-A power source. The lamp will flash when the battery is running out of charge. The lamp can be left connected to the USB power supply.
The electronics are quality branded components from Adafruit Industries in New York USA, with Lumberg and StarTech providing the cables and connectors. The bolts used are quality UK manufactured from stainless steel and the screws are from Spax. The light source is provided by Adafruit Neopixel RGBW LED's which allow for the full colour spectrum, using two light rings totalling 19 or 23 LED's dependent upon the design.
Mounting electronics components to wood is problematic and to overcome this we have custom designed holders and brackets which we 3D print in-house. This attention to detail we believe makes a real difference, leading to a much longer lifetime.
The video shows a screen mirror of the mobile phone app as it is used to control the light. First the colour wheel is used to change the colour and then various effects are selected to demonstrate these in action.
